Sagamore wedding from Saturday - Sneak Peek!

I usually wait to get the finished photos from the wedding photographers before putting them up on my blog, but this past Saturday's wedding was so awesome that I'm going against my nature and postings some sneak peek pics. This wedding was at The Sagamore Resort two days before the Today Show broadcast from there. The place was a buzz with excitement and there were NBC crews on site getting footage all throughout the day. Although images from this wedding didn't make it on the show, they certainly could have - this wedding was incredible and could easily be featured in any high-end wedding magazine (or morning show!). Very special kudos to David Michael Schmidt from Renaissance Floral Design in Albany (www.renaissancefloraldesign.com). The flowers and complete decor were all David's design and he and his team executed the setup beautifully. Also thanks to Clifton Park Rental Company for the stunning reception rentals and the cool uplighting in the room. The wedding photographer on this job was the fabulous Tracey Buyce and I can't wait to see her images from this day. For now, here are some of the shots taken by David in between all the crazy decorating he was doing of this space. David - you rock!!
Check out the humongous flower arrangements David made for the ceremony (picture above)!!

Cocktail hour terrace - sooo soft and beautiful!

Here I'm putting the final touches to the table with my custom made place cards.

David has these fabulous high backed white leather couches that we used as lounge furniture around the dance floor. This is Tracey Buyce and I getting a quick rest on one before the reception begun. The only time we sat down all night - I swear!

Check out this dining table! The guest list for this wedding was less than 40 so we went with a very intimate feel and placed all the guests along one big table. David decorated the table beautifully with gathered fabrics, multiple floral arrangements, and crystal chandeliers hanging overhead. It was stunning! When the bride saw it she burst into happy tears. It was awesome to see her that happy!

A few more shots of this incredible table.

This was a big wedding, and a big day for all of us who worked so hard on it. You can't tell I was tired, can you??
Thanks again to David from Renaissance Floral Designs for the exquisite flowers and reception room decor - and for these pictures! I'll post a full blog with Tracey's photos soon!!

Honesty Is Still The Best Policy

When I had my own retail bridal boutique, I never talked a bride into spending more money than she wanted to. Sad to say, it’s a fairly common practice. When I took Danielle shopping, she looked like a 5 foot 2 inch curvy little goddess trying on the sexy, ruffled dresses she liked best. At one boutique, she was so taken with the dress the salesclerk asked if she could interest Danielle in a

Hotz Wedding - May 16, 2009

I was looking back through my posts and I realized I never blogged about this wedding - how could I have missed it?? In any rate, here is a much overdue recap of a very cool wedding...

Mr. and Mrs. Hotz were married May 16, 2009 at the Albany Country Club. I met these guys in February 2008 so I had the great pleasure of working with them for 16 months. They are such a cute couple, very relaxed and laid back. Danielle is a petite little ball of pure niceness, and he's a Red Sox fan so they were all right in my book. Actually Nick is also my web designer (check out his work - http://www.weddingplanningplus.net/ ) so he gets extra bonus points for that. These two met in college and moved to Albany to start their life together. A life that included a very fun and very personal wedding! I have to thank some of my favorite vendors for putting in their best work for these two - DJ Greg Frasier rocked out a ridiculously fun reception! And these pictures are all from photographer Tracey Buyce (http://www.traceybuyce.com/) - check out her great work!!

How pretty is she?? The bride's makeup was done by Jessica Sheridan who works for the makeup artist Amy Elizabeth Smith. Such a beautiful bride!!

The colors for the wedding were sage green, lavender, and pink. The girls wore green dresses with fun lavender jewelry and the matron of honor's dress had a pretty lavender sash around the middle. The bride and groom stepped out of the box with the tuxes and chose a tan color for the guys instead of the traditional black. Going with a lighter color kept the overall feel lighter and less stuffy. Definitely suited this fun-loving group!

For flowers we kept with the color theme but chose different blooms for the personal flowers and the reception centerpieces. Big lush pink and ivory peony bouquets were carried by the girls and the rest of the wedding flowers were pink and green orchids. Check out the submerged orchid stem in the centerpiece and the floating orchids in the little containers next to it. There was even a submerged LED light at the bottom of each of the tall vases that lit the room as the night got dark. Very easy and inexpensive way to have a lot of impact on your tables. So cool!

I couldn't possibly blog about this wedding and not mention their very cool wedding cake. Check it out!! This is a CoccaDotts creation and matched so many elements of the wedding perfectly - the quilted diamond pattern on the green layers is an exact replica of the diamond pattern on their invitations and the brooches on the purple bands matches the brooch on the waistline of the bride's wedding dress. If you are familiar with the Albany Country Club you know what a fantastic placement the cake gets and this cake certainly got a lot of attention. It was awesome!

I mentioned that the groom is a Red Sox fan (go Sox!) but the bride is a die-hard Yankees fan (must make for interesting pillow talk!) Well to remind her new husband that her baseball loyalty didn't change with the changing of her last name, she wore a garter that was navy blue and had a big Yankees logo on it. The groom had no idea and when he pulled the garter off her leg and took a look at it his expression was priceless! :)

These guys were so much fun to work with! And their wedding came together just beautifully. Unfortunately they got caught in the rainy summer weather so the outdoor ceremony had to come indoors, but they rolled with it and never let anything distract them from having a night of fun with their family and friends.

This was a picture Tracey took towards the end of the night - I'm one happy wedding planner!! Congrats guys - and miss you!! :)

Vintage Ring Bearer Pillows

When I came across Danielle’s First Holy Communion dress, long ago tucked away, I returned the Beverly Clark ring bearer pillow I had purchased for her wedding in April. I carefully removed the white lace overlay from the dress and fashioned it into a vintage style ring bearer pillow. I attached four tiny satin ribbons at each corner, and instead of the-same-pillow-as-1000-other-brides; we had an

Bridezilla

Bridezilla. It’s a term I strongly dislike. And I’ll tell you why. One woman planning an extravagant wedding for 200 with the help of her mother, her sister, her brother’s girlfriend, her brother’s girlfriend’s mother, and her Aunt Louise. Are all these willing people adept at turning a bride’s every fantasy into awe-inspiring reality? Most likely not. But every bride knows that modern wedding

A royal shade of purple in the Garden of Adin

Impressive estate amethyst diamond brooch

ANTWERP, July 26 (Reuters) – In medieval Europe, purple was worn by kings as blue dyes were rare and expensive and only the most wealthy or the aristocracy could afford to wear them. Therefore it is not unexpected that Adin's gardeners found blooming evidence of the origin of this color in the Garden of Adin. Chief-research Elkan Wijnberg said in an exclusive interview with The Heavenly Inquirer that he never had seen an amethyst in such ethereal purple before.

Wedding Vendor Discounts

If your dream wedding is at the Moana Surfrider in Waikiki Beach, you’re probably going to live and die by their rules. “Only a very minimal amount of neutral color—white or ivory—floral petals will be allowed for “tossing” purposes, and an automatic cleanup fee of $200 plus tax will be assessed should your florist or event coordinator not be available to provide cleanup following the ceremony.”

How to wear a Bridal Birdcage Veil with side combs

Use a few hairpins to keep veil in place
Crystal Vine Comb being placed
Close up of Crystal Vine Comb

A question brides ask us is "How do I place and wear a birdcage veil?" Well we listened and made it a point at our last photo session to take step by step photos of how to place and wear a bridal birdcage veil. This is just one way to place and wear a birdcage veil with side combs. But it should give you the general idea of how to use a birdcage veil with combs on each side.

Pictured above is a beautiful vintage style bridal birdcage veil with side combs and separate crystal vine comb. By adding the separate accent comb to the side (as shown above) this look gives you the option of removing the veil and still having a hair accessory in place to accent your hairstyle. Some creative ideas to change the look above are to choose a different style accent comb (flowers, crystals, pearls) or perhaps choose a larger accent comb.

Sunflower Seed Favors

After Danielle and Chris got married in April, this exhausted mother of the bride was thinking more about soaking my feet in a tub of hot water than soaking our sunflower seeds in the ground. It's called priorities and mine had all been met. Mission accomplished. I had ordered the favors from Forever and Always, selected 100 at $1.25 a piece, plus $15.00 for personalization and $9.90 for shipping

I love what I do

I don’t usually blog when I get home from a wedding, but after tonight’s affair I have so much on my mind that I feel the need to share. Not in a rant or vent kinda way, but in the spirit of a celebratory happy wedding planner type share. Tonight was the wedding of a bride who will truly stand out in my mind as one of the most special. I know I say a lot of my brides are special – and they are! – but each is special to me in a different way. With tonight’s wedding the bride was special because of the deep relationship we formed over the last year and a half. When I say that this bride called/text/e-mailed/Facebook messaged me every day I would not be exaggerating. I talked to her frequently and often. She had a million questions. And needed reassurance. And advice. And I was happy to give it all.

So when you talk to someone almost daily you get to learn a lot about them, maybe even more than their groom ends up knowing. You get to be more than just a wedding planner to them. You get to be a friend.

Tonight’s wedding was absolutely beautiful, and even though the bride was a bit nervous (not that I didn’t see that coming) she was happy and gorgeous and treated her guests to a wonderful event. Her father got up from dinner to find me and tell me how beautiful the reception was and how appreciative he was for everything I had done to put this wedding together. He talked with me for several minutes. And when he told me how much this wedding was to his daughter and his family, he cried.

At the end of tonight, as I do at every wedding, I went through and said goodbye to key people. I said goodbye to the groom who gave me a big hug and thanked me for everything. Then I said goodbye to the father of the bride who again hugged me tight and gave me a healthy dose of praise. The mother of the bride hugged me so tight and so long that I wasn’t sure I was going to be let go. She poured out her appreciation for putting together such a beautiful event, but mostly for dealing and working with her daughter throughout the whole process. And then I said goodbye to the bride. And it was like saying goodbye to a friend I won’t see anymore. She told me I couldn’t go. And I told her I really wasn’t. Because I know I’m won’t be. I’m never really gone. I’ll always be a part of them as they are of me.

I love what I do. I am a wedding planner. But really I get to be so much more than that. I am a friend. A confidant. I am the expert and the one with wisdom and knowledge. I comfort fears and give a gentle nudge forward when needed. I know about what my couples are most excited about. And what they’re most afraid of. I get them. And their vision. And their wishes and hopes. And I love to put it together.

I don’t think I could ever work at one of those reception locations that pumps out 5 events in a weekend. Because it’s not about the process; to me it’s all about the people. I really do feel like a member of their family, and they become an important member in mine. I stay in touch with a lot of my couples, and I get updates when they return from their honeymoon, when buy their first home, and when they have their first child. I get holiday cards and Facebook updates. I mean something to them and they mean a whole lot to me.

I love what I do. I love being a wedding planner. And what I do is much more than just about the wedding… :)

Happy planning,

Shannon

Black Wedding Veils

I’m sure whoever wore this black and white wedding dress and veil had the day of her dreams. But from my view, the veil was wearing the bride instead of the bride wearing the veil. This dress, with only a small sweep train, needed nothing other than a simple elbow or waist length veil with little or no embellishment. Or no veil at all. Why steal the spotlight from an amazing

Superb 18th Century cameo

Superb French Baroque cameo in golden mounting. A true collectors item!

Two weeks ago we were lucky being offered an impressive private collection of antique jewelry. The person who brought it to us inherited it from his parents, antique jewelry dealers who retired some 30 years ago, and he wanted to find a good home for it. We felt honoured that he came to us and were amazed by the quality of this collection. One could see the love these people had for antique jewelry.

Among the many high quality pieces we got was one truly amazing cameo. It took us many hours to determine where the cameo came from and what it depicted and the result is amazing. If you want to find out about this cameo just click the picture.

Tips on choosing a Bridal Hairstyle & Bridal Hair Accessories

I think any bride would agree that after choosing the gown the next important decision is choosing a hairstyle and hair accessory to both compliment and accent your gown. This is where total confusion sometimes can take over. But if you break down this process into steps, finding the right hairstyle and accessory might be easier than you think

Your first step could be to start pouring over bridal magazines and hairstyle magazines. A few hairstyle magazine issues are sometimes totally devoted to featuring different bridal hairstyles. After choosing several possible styles narrow your choices down to just a few. Give yourself some variety of your hair being worn up or down or half up and down. Place the pictures of your possible hairstyle picks in a binder or folder so that you can show the pictures to your hairstylist.

Now that you have an idea of a possible hairstyle you can think about searching for the perfect hair accessory. When choosing a hair accessory think not only about the style of the piece but also how comfortable this accessory will be to wear from the ceremony through the reception. If choosing to add a veil to your look, think about how long you plan on wearing the veil. Most veils, whether they are Traditional or a Birdcage Face Veil are worn throughout the ceremony and photographs but usually is removed at the reception. Think also about how easy the veil will be to remove without messing up your hairstyle. Most of the brides we have spoken to have expressed that even after the veil is removed they still want some sparkling hair accessory in their hairstyle. Please view our example above featuring the silver vine and pearl spray comb and traditional separate veil then view the example below it with veil removed and comb staying beautifully in place.

We would advise that you never leave your choice of hairstyle or accessory until the last minute. No one needs the stress of trying out both a new hairstyle or hair accessory on the day of the wedding. A practical suggestion would be to make an appointment with your hairstylist and have a practice session. At a practice session you will get to see how your hairstyle choice would actually look on you. If you have the hair accessory in hand your hairstylist can give you options, suggestions, and guidance to how you would like to wear the hair accessory. Most hairstylists will allow three hairstyle choices per practice session. The greatest advantage to setting up a hairstyle practice session appointment would be that it cuts down the stress and mystery of how your hair and accessory will look on your very special day.

For our Brides located in Central New York that may be searching for a hairstylist who offers practice session appointments we recommend La Tresse Salon located in Baldwinsville, New York. You can contact them at 315-638-2040. La Tresse is also available to travel to your home or hotel for your big day.

The hairstyle and placement of hair accessory pictured above was gracefully styled by Renee at La Tresse Salon and the beautiful makeup application courtesy of Jessica at La Tresse Salon. They both did a wonderful job. The gorgeous photographs above were taken by Crystal Herry of Ultimate Images By Crystal. Many thanks to Renee , Jessica and Crystal for sharing both their vision and artistry during our most recent photo shoot.

Basics of the alexandrite appraisal

Beginners usually make mistakes, but, when dealing with money or alexandrite jewelry, there isn’t any room for failure. This is why information regarding alexandrite appraisal is necessary. The article just lets you know how to get started.....................Click Here!

An alexandrite appraisal requires someone with a massive amount of skill, talent, dedication and knowledge. Not any individual that sees a gemstone can appreciate its true value, let alone qualify as an alexandrite appraisal expert. Working with and around jewels does not make someone an alexandrite appraisal expert. The status of appraiser shouldn't come with the job of handling jewelry. So, what makes an alexandrite appraisal expert?
Appraising is a profession that implies responsibility. The alexandrite appraisal states the value of a gem or jewel and it is used later on for other legalities. Because anyone can state that they are true alexandrite appraisal experts, one has to be careful and not let himself be fooled by any statement. It is up to the client to determine if the alexandrite appraisal is done by a professional and not by anyone.
Having taken courses and passed tests about theories, ethics and product knowledge, an alexandrite appraisal expert is almost always an educated person, with lots of information, expertise and experience. A professional will continuously try to stay one step ahead of the market by teaching himself. Viewing alexandrite appraisal as a passion and trying to put their best efforts into making the most accurate evaluations, experts are dedicated to their job. Most of them have been alexandrite appraisal experts from generation to generation and have viewed their assignment with a lot of respect. This is the type of person you are looking for to make an alexandrite appraisal.
Alexandrite appraisal can be done online and Randy G. Lander is the owner of a site that can help you in this direction. This might not be a traditional way to go, but it can be just as effective. Besides, most of these experts are affiliated with a site that gathers all these alexandrite appraisal experts under one organized form that makes sure they are professionals and the job gets done properly and with care. If they are not affiliated, some other certificate that proves their qualifications is just as good. However, the client has to pay interest and check the background of the people he deals with.

What should an alexandrite appraisal contain?
-A detailed description of the alexandrite jewel
-A document that accurately and completely explains the type of sought value (purpose) and the function or assigned use of the appraisal
-The resources and market analysis on which the alexandrite appraisal is based
-The qualifications of the expert
-The date and location of the alexandrite appraisal inspection
-A signed statement that proves the alexandrite appraisal expert has no interest in the value of the jewel or that any kind of interest is made known in the report

What shouldn’t an alexandrite appraisal be like?
-it shouldn’t be hand written and lack the signature of the alexandrite appraisal
-it shouldn’t miss the fixed fee or not be based on the value of the jewel
-it shouldn’t miss the right purpose and assignment use
-it shouldn’t be beyond the alexandrite appraisal professional's expertise
In addition, the alexandrite appraisal expert has to be able and willing to defend the appraisal in court.

With this information and additional research, finding the right person to do an alexandrite appraisal won’t be difficult at all. The task isn’t complicated, but being new at anything implies risks. However, as this is the age of the Internet, it should be easy to find out everything one needs to know by simply visiting several sites...............Click Here!

Basic Information About Diamonds

Diamonds have an allure about them that make them probably the most sought after gemstones in the world. They say that "diamonds are a girl's best friend", and more than likely that sentiment is due to their brilliance, their sparkle, and the way they make a person feel when wearing one. But, what we know as these perfectly clear and beautiful gemstones start their lives as basically rocks. They have to be mined and honed and crafted into what we know as diamonds...................Click Here!

A diamond is a form of carbon, and its extreme hardness and light diffusion qualities make it a highly useful stone for industrial purposes, in addition to its pleasing aesthetic qualities. Diamonds make excellent abrasives because they can only be scratched by other diamonds. Therefore, they are extremely durable and retain their brilliant gleam wonderfully.
The earliest known reference to the diamond comes from a Sanskrit text dating back to approximately 296 BCE (before the Christian Era), which described the diamond's qualities. It is generally accepted that diamonds were first mined in India, where they quickly became symbols of spirituality and holiness, decorating religious idols. Early on in their history, diamonds were traded in all direction of India for their different industrial uses, including engraving and drilling, as well as for their aesthetic purposes such as for ceremony, decoration, and adornment.
There was a strict prohibition against cutting diamonds. This taboo was started with the early traditional uses in India, and ended in the Middle Ages. By 1375, a guild of diamond cutters and polishers was established, as the technology of reshaping diamonds began to develop. The different shapes that were developed through the years only worked to exemplify the diamond's beauty and brilliance, increasing their allure. Today, diamonds are most familiarly used for the purposes of adornments, such as for jewelry.
There are 4 characteristics that are used as basic description devices of diamonds, and which are used in order to determine the ultimate value of a particular diamond. These are known as the "4 C's", or carat, clarity, color, and cut. The carat is the weight that measures the mass of the diamond. One carat equals approximately 0.007 ounce. The value of a diamond increases greatly relative to its carat weight, because large diamonds are exceptional and in high demand for jewelry.
The clarity of a diamond measures the amount of inclusions of a diamond, or its internal flaws. Foreign matter inside the diamond or cracks causing a cloudy appearance are considered inclusions, and tend to decrease the value of a diamond. There grading systems used to assess clarity, based on certain factors including number, size, color, and visibility of the inclusions (diamonds are usually graded from flawless to imperfect). The higher the clarity rating is, the more rare the diamond (and the more valuable) is.
The color of a structurally perfect diamond, and one that is free of chemicals is almost perfectly clear, and color-free to the naked eye. This doesn't necessarily affect the value of a diamond, however. Some pink or blue diamonds (like the Hope Diamond, for example) are considered spectacular, and therefore highly valuable. A rating system of D to Z (D=colorless and Z=bright yellow) is in use to aid in color assessment of diamonds.

The cut of a diamond describes how the diamond has been shaped and polished from its original mined state. The "cut" describes the level of workmanship that has gone into the diamond, as well as the angles to which the diamond is cut. This is not the same as the shape of the diamond, which describes just that, its shape. Shapes such as pear, round, marquis, princess are all familiar terms for diamond jewelry. When shopping for diamond jewelry, fine jewelry stores will be aware of the 4 C's of the diamond they carry, and will be able to provide information about which gems you are interested in. Diamonds are unique, and they are the ultimate souvenirs from the Earth, which adds even more allure to owning one...............Click Here!

Perfect Timing5
I am getting married later this year; although I didn't think it was necessary for me to wear an engagement ring, we decided to play the part and purchased this lovely ring. It is exquisite, everyone is amazed about the design and overall look. I am truly greatful for stumbling across this ring.
Many thanks to Titanium Kay. I ordered the ring on a Sunday night and had it on my finger by Wednesday of the same week.
Much appreciation.

I loved that5

I really loved this ring... it was lovely, adorable, and the size was perfect....
Thank you very much.

I LOVE This Ring!4
I ordered this set about a month ago. I was pleased in how quickly I received it (3 days later!) considering I placed my order late on a Saturday night.

I was elated when the rings arrived! I was even more excited when I opened the box and saw how beautiful they really are. In person, the look just as they do in the pictures.

The size is great. I usually wear a 4.5 size ring but the smallest this set came in was a 5 so I was a little scared considering these rings CANNOT be re-sized, but I have had no problems with the fit.

The only negative thing I can say is that the middle stone seems to be a little loose. It seems that a little tightening of the brackets will take care of that but I do wish my center stone had been set better.

Other than that - these rings are a perfect choice for someone looking for a beautiful wedding set, period. They are just as beautiful and have held up just as well as other diamond and gold sets I have seen - without the painful price tag.

Basic Guide To Tanzanite

A Basic Guide to the Tanzanite Gemstone
The tanzanite gemstone was discovered in Tanzania by the Masaai people in 1967. Shortly thereafter, tanzanite was brought to the Western world by Tiffany and Co., who gave the stone its name and introduced it to the public................Click Here!

Tanzanite is popular for its dazzling color. A rare stone with the ability to appear several colors at once, tanzanite is mainly purple with shades of blue, flashes of red, and even tinges of green. The darker the tanzanite gemstone, the more valuable it will be. Lighter, more translucent stones can still be beautiful, but they are less valuable.
Tanzanite gemstone jewelry is very popular, and can be found in a wide range of options to suit all needs and tastes. Pendants, bracelets, rings and earrings can all be crafted from tanzanite. Tanzanite can be cut into a variety of shapes, the most popular being cushion, oval, round and emerald-cut.
Considered a birthstone for December since 2002, tanzanite gemstone jewelry makes a great gift for anyone born in that month.
Care should be taken when wearing tanzanite jewelry because it is not the most durable. Tanzanite ranks a 6.5 on the Moh's scale of gemstone hardness and is more easily damaged than stones like aquamarine, sapphire, and diamond.
When cleaning your tanzanite gemstone take special care to be gentle and never use harsh jewelry cleaners. Also, using ultrasonic jewelry cleaners can ruin tanzanite. Tanzanite should not be exposed to water if at all possible. Also, leaving your tanzanite out in the sun can cause the color to fade. You can wipe your tanzanite clean with a dry cloth, or better yet, take your tanzanite gemstone to a professional jeweler who is knowledgeable in cleaning gemstones.
A beautiful tanzanite necklace can also make a fantastic gift for anyone born in the month of December, as it was added to the list of December's official gemstones in 2002...............Click Here!

Baby Jewelry: Infant Fashion as Keepsake

Matching jewelry for mommy and baby is always a cute touch, and it can be a keepsake for when the baby is all grown up. The sentimental value that comes with baby jewelry cannot be measured. Sometimes certain items of jewelry come with memories; like this bracelet one was bought right after little Sarah took her first steps, or this pendant was bought soon before Davey started to say his first words...................Click Here!

When we say "baby jewelry," we usually mean bracelets: the safest item of adornment for infants. Many baby bracelets come with letter-blocks that spell out the baby's name. These may well be a baby's first opportunity to learn how to read! Some baby bracelets also double as toys, and some charms come with rattles and colorful beads that could easily endear them to the infant.
We may admit that baby jewelry is cute and fun to use, but some mothers are concerned: won't jewelry be too dangerous to hold so close to the baby? Teething babies will tend to want to bite into their bracelets, or put them in their mouths -- and won't the baby swallow the charms, the item itself, or bits of it that may come off? Also, won't silver, gold, and certain plastics be bad for the baby's skin?
Baby jewelry is necessarily hypoallergenic, to keep from irritating a baby's supremely delicate skin. The charms that come with baby jewelry are usually tightly woven in, so there is no danger of falling off or apart even if the baby is teething. Infant jewelry also has safe clasps. Pin latches or sharp clasps are definitely a no-no.
Toddlers, who are more capable of appreciating body accessories, may in fact enjoy sporting jewelry, especially ones they can play with and show off to other toddlers. Mom and Dad can have their toddler pick out his or her own bracelet. After all, babies and toddlers appreciate bright, sparkling and fun stuff that are visually stimulating and attractive. Baby jewelry is something they can enjoy, and it will be a reminder of that time that passes all too quickly..............Click Here!

Avoid Diamond Scams

When it comes to diamonds, there are numerous scams to avoid. Most scams are minor, but there are some major ones that come up from time to time concerning the buying and selling of diamonds. Scams occur simply because most people who buy diamonds – for whatever reasons – don’t know that much about diamonds. Therefore, they are easily fooled............Click Here!

A common scam that most jewelry stores participate in is the Carat Total weight scam. The tag on the piece of jewelry, usually a ring, only states the total carat weight of all diamonds in the piece, instead of listing the total weights separately for each diamond. This leads consumers to believe that the main diamond in the piece is actually bigger than it is. Ask what the total carat weight of the center stone is. Also beware of fractions. Jewelry stores are allowed to round off diamond weights. This means that if the jeweler tells you that it is a ¾ carat diamond, it is probably between ½ and ¾ carat – but closer to ¾.
Jewelry stores often run ‘fluorescence’ scams to varying degrees. Referring to a diamond as a blue-white diamond is such a scam. A blue-white diamond sounds very unique and special, but in fact, this type of diamond is of lesser quality – even though the jeweler will try to make you think you are getting something special. Jewelry stores also like to show their diamonds in bright lights. Lights make diamonds shine. Ask to see the diamond in a different, darker type of lighting as well.
Some truly unscrupulous jewelers target those who want appraisals on diamonds that were given to them as gifts or that were purchased elsewhere. They will try to tell you that the diamond is worthless, or worth less than it actually is worth – and offer to take it off your hands or trade it for a much better diamond, along with the cash to make up the difference. This is called low balling. Get a second, third, and even a forth opinion before taking any action.
Another common dirty trick is to switch the diamond you have chosen and paid for with one of lesser quality and value when you leave it to be set in a piece of jewelry, or leave a diamond ring to be sized. The only way to avoid this is to do business with one trustworthy jeweler. Avoid jewelers that you have not done business with in the past.
There are many more scams that jewelry stores commonly pull on unsuspecting consumers. Just use your best judgment, and purchase your diamonds with the utmost care and consideration..............Click Here!

Artificial Diamonds

Diamonds as they say are a girl’s best friend and buying the perfect diamond ring should not be a problem for anyone. Usually any kind of diamond ring will do just so long as you get a big diamond on the ring you will be fine. However there have been people that feel an artificial diamond or man made diamond are different from mined diamonds and therefore they feel that the quality will suffer because of this. However there is nothing to fear because an artificial or man made diamond is still chemically the same as a mined diamond.....................Click Here!
In fact it can be very hard for people to tell the difference between an artificial diamond and a mined diamond. This can create problems for many people because at the end of the day if you are going to treat someone to a diamond ring then you are going to want the real thing and nothing artificial. While it is unlikely that artificial diamond rings will replace mined diamond rings there still remains the fact that these man made diamond rings are still much cheaper then their mined counterparts.
Diamonds do look nice on a ring and because it is very hard to tell the difference from a man made diamond to a real diamond this means that any ring with a diamond on can look very nice. Diamonds can also withstand high temperatures a diamond can withstand temperatures reaching and including 1100C when it gets hotter then that the diamond will then vaporize.
Diamonds can be made to fit into almost anything for example man made diamonds can be made small enough so that they can be made into earrings, pendants, cuff links and even bracelets. The possibilities that you have with diamonds are almost endless they can be made to fit into anything and you can visit any jeweller and just see all the diamonds that they have on display. These will range from earrings to engagement and wedding rings. Of course diamonds do not come cheap and if you want to purchase a piece of jewelery that contains diamonds then you will have to pay a pretty penny.
Diamonds are without a doubt a beautiful piece of jewelery to look at. If you are lucky enough to own a piece of jewelery with a diamond in it then you will usually only wear it for a special party. Just so you can see your friends admire your stunning piece of diamond jewelery...........Click Here!

April Celebrities Share The Diamond Birthstone With You

If you are still young enough to admit you have birthdays and your birthday falls in April then you already know the diamond is April’s birthstones. Celebrities who already have a love affair with diamonds are even more apt to be seen wearing diamonds if their birthday is in April. There are many April celebrities that share the diamond birthstone with you.
But did you know that the diamond is also deep in mystical powers from ancient times? It is said to enhance ones competence, trust and love relationships....................Click Here!

Diamonds also have a long history in their medicinal qualities. During ancient times diamonds were believed to heal illness. Diamonds were first placed into the bed to warm the diamond to enhance their healing qualities.
It is even said that over the centuries Cupid’s arrows were tipped in diamonds and thus it earned its reputation as the perfect gift of love.
The white and brilliant hues diamonds signify life, joy and innocence. But really diamonds come in a wide range of colors other than white which includes shades of gray, brown, yellow, blue, red, and green.
Pre 1400’s diamonds were only available to those of royal blood who were the only people able to wear the symbol of courage and invincibility. During the mid 1400s The Archduke Maximillian gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy beginning the long tradition of diamond engagement rings which is still carried on today.
The practice of wearing a diamond engagement ring on the third finger often referred to as the ring finger began in Egyptian times because it was believed the vein of love ran through this finger directly to the heart.
Besides being the birthstone for April there is no gift that is more symbolic of love than a diamond and no more convincing promise of eternal and everlasting love.
Ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were splinters of stars that had fallen from the sky making a visit to earth. Others revered to diamonds as Gods Tears or dew drops. The origin of the first diamond has never been solved and remains a mystery to geologists and sciences even today.
Initially geologists thought that India was the first river-bed source for mining diamonds. The ancient Hindus called the diamond Vajra which means lightening. It earned this name because of its incredible strength and the light rays it emitted. Besides being the most beautiful gem they are also the hardest substance found on earth. Diamonds have been mined Botswana, Australia, Russia and South Africa, and recently Canada has been added to that list.
April does have an alternative birthstone which is the opal. Unlike diamonds which are simply crystallized carbon, opals are found deep within the earth where the intense heat develops this beautiful stone.
So even though there are many April celebrities that share the diamond birthstone with you the diamond is a celebrity and star all on its own. Recognized back to ancient times for its symbol of love and its beautiful brilliance...................Click Here!
