Month of October at Studioplex

I don't get out as much as I used to. By saying "getting out", I mean, I don't get out of the house in the way of shopping like I used to. Isn't that what a girl likes to do? We need to shop, it's part of the whole guy "hunts", girl "shops" thing, right?

We grab our friends, maybe buy some coffee or grab a bite to eat, and shop. I used to make a weekly habit of it. When I had my 9 to 5 sales job, I would go to a "meeting" where it was conveniently located next to a lunching/shopping area, and shop. There's that whole adrenaline rush you get, yeah you know what I'm talking about, when you find that really good deal... Anyways, you're wondering where am I going with this as a jewelry artist? Well, there is this live/work community in Inman Park called Studioplex. I never heard of it until recently, or maybe I've been under a rock, I dunno. But, all I know is that I need to spend some more time downtown and do what a girl does best, shop...

And to float my own boat, Throwing Stars Jewelry is a part of a A Fine Market for the month of October at Studioplex. I got a glimpse of who will be down there for the month, and I have a feeling I'll be doing some damage to the checking account, by of course, SHOPPING!

Here are a couple of factoids: A Fine Market at Studioplex is a 1st time event in Atlanta. It's an urban market featuring local designers and artists. (Which means it's really cool and unique!) It's open from 11:00am to 9:00pm, Tues thru Saturday and 12:00pm to 5:00pm Sunday. CLOSED ON MONDAYS

Stowe Wedding - August 21, 2009

I had the pleasure to consult on this Destination Wedding down in the beautiful Charlotte, NC area. The bride is a very good friend of mine from way back to our childhood which made the whole event that much more special to me. She chose a beautiful botanical garden location for the ceremony and reception, and kept her palette to a soft and natural green and purple. All of the design elements were chic and classy, and they blended together to create a backdrop that was both personal and elegantly simple. I love both the bride and the groom, and thank them so much for letting me be a part of their special day. Congrats you two!! :)

Absolutely Gorgeous Pearls
After ordering my necklace and earrings I was suddenly afraid that I would receive pearls that had blemishes, bad uniformity, or didn't have the nice round shape I saw in the picture. I was thrilled when I received the necklace and matching earrings. They were absolutely beautiful.

The Earrings
The pearl earring were great except one earring had a dented pearl. It was hardly noticeable but I noticed. They were a gift for my mother. She likes them and wears them a lot!

Pearls have a nice sheen, a little small for me, Perfect for those with smaller ears.
The earrings are pretty, 14K gold cup holders have nice Akoya pearls at the front. Good sheen and lustre and a nice round shape. These are the size of petite peas and were a little small for my taste, as I usually wear very large stud earrings. These look tiny on my ears but were a little too big for my kid. So I may just gift them to someone else. By the way, Amazon's shipping is fast but it was blazing fast this time...I ordered these earrings on Feb 21st evening and they arrived Feb 22nd at 11:30 AM traveling from KY to GA. I was stunned!

How Well Would Your Other Half Do?

Having watched the TV programme "Don't Tell The Bride" last night there were a few things that made me wonder how well my own hubby of 19 years would have done if he had been told he had to organise our wedding all on his lonesome!

There were a few points that struck me during last night's programme. A very sweet young Essex couple,Luke and Lauren, decided to hand over their big day to the BBC by signing a legal document stating that the Groom2Be, Luke would be the only one to be involved in the planning of their big day, in return for £12,000 to pay for it!

Young Lauren scooped up her baby, Poppy and her best mate and hot footed it off to Italy to visualise the Italian style wedding she had always dreamt of. This wedding which would have taken place in an Italian Catholic Church, followed by a small and intimate reception in an authentic Italian restaurant with her dressed in a simple fitted and very plain wedding dress.

Meanwhile Luke was desperately trying to get permission to marry in the local Catholic church that Lauren attended regularly but was having to line up plan B which was to have a Civil Ceremony in a very English stately home hotel!!

My heart was in my mouth as the camera cut back to Lauren who was getting very emotional in the Italian Chapel, describing how her faith is what got her through her baby's early days of lying in an incubator on a Special Care Baby Unit having been born 5 weeks prematurely! The thought of this poor (very teary) girl coming home only to find out she was to be wed in a civil ceremony was almost too much to bear!

Luke then went on to choose her wedding dress - a dress that was - well everything she said she hated in a dress! All except for the fitted bit anyway!

Her Hen Night was to be held in the centre of London (she was a Southend Girl), and she and her hens were to be dressed in skimpy shorts, leotards, leg warmers etc (think Eric Prinz). Of course this left her feeling very vulnerable and uncomfortable and so she and her hens hopped straight back onto their fun bus and set off back to Southend to finish off their night on familiar territory!

So, what started out as a young bride who's expectations were way off target, a young Groom who didn't seem to know what was really important to his wife turned out to be a very successful wedding with Lauren getting the all important Catholic wedding and she even loved the wedding dress he picked out for her!

Phew!

In the arts, vanitas is a type of symbolic still life painting especially associated with Northern European painters in Flanders and the Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The word is Latin, meaning "emptiness" and loosely translated corresponds to the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of vanity.

By the 16th century flowers would appear (again) as symbols of the seasons. Starting in Roman times is the tradition of the use symbols of mortality, transience and earthly remains. These so called vanitas images have been re-interpreted through the last 400 years of art history, starting with Dutch painters around 1600. It is from these paintings that the Gardener took his inspiration for this Garden of Adin Vanitas Vanitatum.

Since my first taste of Lululemon about a year ago, I can't let go! For those of you that don't know, Lululemon is an athletic wear brand founded in Vancouver, BC. I've had a pair of black Wonder Unders for about a year now and they haven't faded one bit. They're so comfy and you can move in them! Because I'm THAT girl that contorts herself into a pretzel trying to find the perfect sleeping position for an overnight flight. If you're a pretzel too (even if you're not), you need a pair!


Clark's Privo Shoes
While gearing up for a trip to Australia and New Zealand a couple of years ago, I was on the hunt for a comfy but cute pair of shoes. I knew I'd be pounding a lot of pavement in Sydney and Melbourne and the occasional quick hike in Auckland so I wanted shoes that could do double duty. Well, I'm here to say that Clark's aren't just for your grandparents anymore! Two years later I still love them and have worn them traveling, while setting up weddings, etc, and still love them.


A Hat, Any Hat
That would be my favorite hat up there: Grey jersey, a find in Sydney too good to resist so I bought one in black too. I'm not a total germ-o-phobe but I admit I do get a little freaked about resting my head on some random plane seat a zillion other people have rested their heads against, ick. This is me in Sydney donning my Privo's and my favorite hat. A hat also comes in handy when creating your own bedroom on a plane... I'll explain more below...


A Hand Towel
So because I've done so many overnight flights I go to the airport fully prepared wearing my Wonder Unders, Privos, hoodie and a hat. Before I board the plane, I make a stop in the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face- don't forget your face wash! That's where the hand towel comes in. But wait, when I finally want to doze off on the plane, I shove one of the ends of the hand towel under my hat and voila, I just created my own bedroom! I know that may sound a little strange, but I can make all the faces I want under there and no one will notice! Plus I feel like I have a barrier against the inevitable 'Chronic Sneezer'.


Minimal Accessories
When traveling, I'll pack a couple of my favorite rings, bracelets and necklaces. I always bring my simplest pieces because they can go with anything and you don't have to worry about them getting all tangled in your jewelry bag. Gold Slippers (or if you prefer, 'Flip Flops')
I'm a big fan of gold flip-flops and I kind of dig Lauren Conrad's breezy yet put-together LA look so this pic is a perfect example of Hawaii travel style. We wear a lot of slippers here, but the gold color means they can go with anything from jeans and a tank top to a casual dress. A gold slippers are hot on the beach too.
